PENANG: In an ongoing effort to bridge the gap between academic theory and professional practice, Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC) recently hosted a high-impact engagement session titled “Promoting CILT Affiliate Membership & the 2026 CILTM Convocation.”
The session, held at MPH1, was led by Ts. ChLT. Log. Dr. Hj Mohd Nasir of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Malaysia (CILTM). It aimed to introduce students to the benefits of professional body affiliation while outlining potential career pathways in the global logistics and supply chain industry.
During the session, Dr. Mohd Nasir provided a comprehensive overview of the various tiers of CILT membership, ranging from Student and Affiliate levels to the prestigious Chartered Fellow status.
He also highlighted the upcoming 2026 CILTM Convocation in Shah Alam, Selangor, describing it as a significant milestone for students seeking formal industry recognition upon completing their studies.
Meanwhile, School of Business and Management lecturer Lim Wooi Chin who is also an active CILT member emphasized the importance of professional engagement.
“Being a member of a professional body like CILT is no longer just an option. It is a necessity for students who want to remain competitive.
“It provides them with a global network and a professional identity that stays with them throughout their career. These sessions are vital because they allow students to see the bigger picture of the industry while they are still in the classroom,” he said.
The talk was well-received by attendees, particularly those at the early stages of their academic journey. Hananthiswarri, a first-year Bachelor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management (BLSCM) student, said the session gave her valuable insight into the importance of early professional involvement.
“As a first-year student, I wasn’t fully aware of how important it is to be part of a professional institute so early on.
“Learning about the Affiliate Membership and the 2026 Convocation has really motivated me. It makes my studies feel more real knowing there is a professional community ready to welcome us,” she said.
The event concluded with an application guidance segment, where students received step-by-step assistance in preparing their membership documentation. The initiative forms part of HCUC’s broader strategy to ensure its graduates are not only academically proficient but also professionally aligned with international industry standards.
