PENANG — The ‘Lasso The Light’ Final Year Screening made history as the largest screening event ever held in Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC), drawing an audience around 800 people today at Dewan Sri Pinang.
The event showcased short films and television commercials produced by final-year students from the Bachelor of Communication (Media Production) (Honours) programme, marking the culmination of their academic journey.
Five production teams consisting of Ong Lai Production, Unkn6wn Production, Batu Production, Peekaboo Production and 7TH Sense EX Production premiered their works today.

In his speech, chairperson Tan Zhi Yong shared the deeper meaning of filmmaking for their cohort.
“As we gather together, we are reminded of the immense power that film and art hold in bringing people together, transcending boundaries and sparking conversations that matter.
“Lasso The Light is not just a screening, but a celebration of storytelling, innovation and the dedication that filmmakers put into their craft.
“Tonight, we will be witnessing not only the talent of filmmakers but the incredible ability of film to ignite imaginations, stir emotions, and push the boundaries of what we believe is possible.
“Each piece we'll experience reflects a story whether of hope, struggle, joy, or discovery; that mirrors our shared humanity,” Tan said.

7TH Sense EX Production, winners of both the Most Popular Short and Best Short Film Awards
The screening also featured games, various performances, a highly anticipated lucky draw session and voting session.
The screening concluded with an award ceremony, where Ong Lai Production won The Most Popular TVC with 609 likes on Facebook. Meanwhile, 7TH Sense EX Production dominated the short film category, winning both Most Popular Short Film and the prestigious Best Short Film Award.
Also present were HCUC Vice-Chancellor Associate Professor Dr Beh Kok Hooi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Ms Jenny Khoo Gim Hoon, Dean of School of Communication and Media Mr Chuah Chin Guan, Dean of the School of Chinese Studies Dr Yeoh Kim Chuan, Head of HCUC News cum lecturer advisor Mr Lee Kean Wei, Programme Manager of Media Production Dr Lim Shiang Shiang and HCUC lecturers.
