A historic collaboration between Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC) with Penang Digital Library (PDL) was forged through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on November 25 at the PDL.
In the hope to generate more benefits to HCUC students, the MoU was signed by HCUC Chief Librarian Mohd Jafri and Deputy Secretary-General of Penang Dato’ Azhar Haji Arshad, in the presence of HCUC Vice Chancellor Dr Beh Kok Hooi alongside Chief Minister Incorporated (CMI) deputy general manager Bharathi Suppiah.
“HCUC is lucky because PDL is nearer to our institution,” says the contented Dr. Beh in clinching a mutually benefitting MoU. He remarked the cooperation with PDL as a golden opportunity that must not be wasted.
Also known as the “Library in the Park”, PDL is a first-of-its kind in Malaysia, and proudly, South-east Asia too. Ensuring excitements to the after-work groups, the online repository is made available for free and 24 hours a week.
Barathi reiterated VC’s remark that HCUC students would be the primary beneficiaries of this newly forged affiliation. “We would like to see the number of HCUC readership log-in to PDL system increase, on parallel, we are looking forward to the contribution of HCUC in terms of online materials to PDL”, said Bharatthi.
She further indicated the possibilities of launching a new branch of digital library by next year in Butterworth.
Dato’Azhar, one of the signatories, believes this MoU will bear fruits for both parties.
Among others, the agreement also aims to increase the number of HCUC readership, organise join programs and the promotion of PDL to public eye.
PDL is also linked with the resource-rich national library containing 20 thousand over collection of free e-reading materials. The creative setting which sees the combination of library and a café is expected to provide a pleasant and conducive environment to the visitors.
