Photography enthusiast, Mr Lee Chuon Yang, was all smiles as he walked up to receive the prize from Han Chiang Board of Director Mr Kang Khoon Seng. Mr Lee received a certificate, a cash prize of RM1,500 and a Sony Digital camera.

The prize presentation ceremony was held at Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC) Multi Purpose Hall on October 12, 2019. The competition was organised by HCUC’s School of Communication and Media in conjunction with Han Chiang Centennial Celebration 2019.

Mr Lee said he took some good shots during the Torch Run as the weather and sunlight then were suitable for shooting.

“It was a bright day, so I quickly took out my camera to capture the scenes.”

Lee added that he was pleased to win the prize because he last participated in a photography competition about 20 years ago.

Photography enthusiasts and those who had submitted entries in the competition made a beeline to the prize presentation ceremony to await the announcement of the winners for the various categories.

Mr Chiang added that photography had also become the core of journalism, journalists, advertising, print media, government agencies and even the military.

“We attach importance to the contribution of photography to society, and therefore we established the Photography Society at HCUC to encourage students to be creative and innovative.”

Of the 318 entries, 45 for the various categories in the competition were shortlisted.

Lim Zhi Tian was the winner of the Open Category to Malaysian students while Lim Jie Ying was the winner of the Han Chiang Schools’ Category.

The competition was to encourage the participants to capture moments which addressed the themes of “Han Chiang Centennial Celebration, “People of Han Chiang” or “The Beauty of Han Chiang.”
