It was a delightful evening for Han Chiang when about 2000 people took part in a lantern
procession to celebrate the Mooncake Festival on Saturday night. 
Comprising students, parents and friends, the colourful 4.6km parade started from Han Chiang Primary School at Jalan Lim Lean Teng, and passed through Free School Road, Hamilton Road, Trengganu Road and ended at Jalan Lim Lean Teng.
The big crowd then proceeded to a stage at Han Chiang Primary School, where cultural performances, dances and singing were held.
The festival was organised to celebrate Han Chiang’s Centennial Anniversary this year. Han Chiang comprises Han Chiang Primary School, Han Chiang High School and Han Chiang University College of Communication.
Among the VIPs present were Penang Han Chiang Chinese Association Board of Directors assistant honorary secretary Mr Ooi Hooi Hiong, Han Chiang Primary School headmistress Miss Lee Hong Choo, Han Chiang High School principal Miss Kung Bee Lee, Han Chiang University College of Communication Vice Chancellor Dr Beh Kok Hooi and Han Chiang Primary School’s Parent-Teacher Association chairperson Mr Lim Yeat Teng.
The evening’s programme included a creative-lantern making competition and a lucky draw.
Han Chiang Primary School headmistress Miss Lee Hong Choo said she was satisfied with the event.
“I would like to thank the Board of Directors for their support, and the hard work put in by teachers and parents to make the event a big success.
Han Chiang Primary School Parent-Teacher Association’s Mrs Chuah Hooi Yen said: I would love to have this lantern tradition continue as a beautiful reunion and for our next generation.”
Mid-Autumn Festival is an important event for the Chinese community to celebrate with families and as a get-together with relatives and friends.
