The Dato’ Boey Eam Seng Golden Achievement Awards 2019

Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC) will host its annual event of the year, the Dato’ Boey Eam Seng Golden Achievement Awards 2019 on September 29, 2019, from 6.30pm to 10.30pm at Han Chiang Lim Lean Teng Hall.

The Dato’ Boey Eam Seng Golden Achievement Awards (GAA) is named in tribute of Dato’ Boey Eam Seng himself for his generosity and continuous support towards the event.

September 29 is a date of great significance to HCUC as it has been the campus’ tradition to hold its annual Graduation Ceremony in the morning, followed by GAA in the evening. GAA is held annually to award graduating students across all academic schools for their academic achievements as well as to recognise HCUC alumni who have performed exceptionally well in their career.

At a media conference at HCUC today, GAA 2019 chairperson Miss Joan Chong Eileen said this year would be the first time where the planning and preparation of GAA would be fully executed by HCUC students, comprising the Student Representative Council (SRC), representatives from all HCUC academic schools as well as the Han Chiang Centre of Professional Studies (COPS), with the support of HCUC academic and non-academic staff.

Chong, who is also president of HCUC’s SRC, said the theme is Tropical Paradise, comprising the elements of sun, sea, sand and the tropical forest and depicting the lifestyle in an island.

“We hope to set a different mood and ambience as compared to previous years. One of the main highlights of the event will be its interactive feature, “Your GAA, Your Choice”, where the audience is presented with a choice to determine the event flow during the evening itself, unlike the practice in previous years,” she said.

Present at the media conference were HCUC Vice Chancellor Dr Beh Kok Hooi, Deputy Vice chancellors Miss Jenny Khoo Gim Hoon and Dr Ooi Bee Peng, Corporate Communication manager Miss Kelly Wong, who is also advisor of GAA 2019, Deans, lecturers and staff.

There will be a total of 19 accolades which will be given out during the evening, including the Best PR Campaign, Most Promising Journalist, Best Young Filmmaker, Cash Flow Award, Best Multimedia Communication Design Project, Most Promising Young Scholar and many more.

The nominees for communication awards are judged by external professionals such as the Dean of the School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Dr Nurzali Ismail and lecturers of USM’s School of Communication, Dr Adrian Lee and Dr Mahyuddin Ahmad. Other external judges also include Lynn Leong and Tan Say How from D2Hub Sdn Bhd, a public relations and advertising firm.

Apart from award presentations, dinner will also be served during the event, together with exciting performances presented by HCUC students and lucky draw sessions.

The sponsors of the event are Bamboo Catering, Diana Spring Beauty Salon, Penang Food & Travel Magazine, Penang Hop-on Hop-Off, Revolt Clothing, The Warung and TLC Houseware (not in any specific order).

Tickets are being sold at RM30 per ticket, RM28 per ticket for a bundle purchase of five tickets and RM25 per ticket for a bundle purchase of one table (10 tickets). GAA 2019 is open to the public.
